About Daniel
Daniel attended Te Herenga Waka / Victoria University of Wellington and in 2019 obtained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Theatre and Film. From there they have been working in pōneke's theatre industry creating dance, physical comedy, clown work and children's theatre for over 5 years.
They have experience in the festival circuit (NZ Fringe Festival, Auckland Fringe Festival, Upsurge Festival, San Diego International Fringe Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival), and in presenting successful productions in various independent venues across Aotearoa (Circa Theatre, BATS Theatre, Te Auaha, Basement Theatre, ONEONESIX).
Daniel has almost two decades of training in the freestyle street dance community and is a legacy member of the pōneke branch of Projekt Team, a battle-focussed collective across Aotearoa. Their predominant styles are waving/isolation, poppin', locking, tutting and robotting, and they also have experience in bboy and krump.
They have received clown mentorship from Thomas LaHood (Barbarian Productions), Thom Monckton (Kallo Collective), and completed a period of study at the world renowned clown school École Philippe Gaulier in Étampes, France in 2025.
Daniel's current focus in clowning is the melding of dance-like, precise movements and hyper-expressive facial expressions to play into comical scenes and create striking physical characters, connecting to a live audience through the strange and the ridiculous.
